Why Daily Routine Is Critical for a Dog’s Mental Health

Being predictable makes a dog feel most secure. Whereas people value variation, dogs require patterns in which they know what to expect in their environment. When dogs are treated randomly regarding meal times, walks, play, or rest, they experience low-level anxiety, regardless of other conditions.

Creating a routine helps synchronize the dog’s body clock, calm its nerves, and ensure it sleeps well. Dogs who feel they know what is coming next remain calm, concentrate, and learn faster. Puppies and rescue dogs will greatly benefit from this since they will be learning to feel safe in their world.

Routine is an important part of preventing behavioral problems. Much of the time, problems such as barking, chewing, and pacing result from a degree of uncertainty rather than disobedience. It is important for dogs to have a certain level of confidence.
